What's New

Here is the recent correspondence I have had with the OCWA
(Ontario Clean Water Agency) concerning their website.

June 14 2001:

I can't believe the OCWA uses the words pure and Purified to describe the treated water you provide. This will be the 6th time e-mailing without any response other that they will consider changing this when the page is updated. They have spent considerable effort putting pictures of a treatment plant on this website recently, all I ask is two words to be changed, pure & purified.

The NSF description of Purified water is here http://www.nsf.org/consumer/consumer_bw.html

Thank you

John Pring

Response (Finally)

June 20 2001:

Dear Mr. Pring,

Thank you for bringing to our attention that the use of the words "purified" and "pure" may not be appropriate in the description of the water/wastewater treatment process found on our website. I am writing to let you know that the words "purified" and "pure" have been changed to "treated" to better reflect the process described.

Thank you,

Massimo Pontone
Manager, Marketing Services

Note: This may seem trivial but the Crown Corporation (OCWA) is serving the majority of the communities in Ontario. If there is misinformation it could lead to a sense of comfort by the people of Ontario which should not exist. The water from the tap is little more than utility water and in my opinion is not fit to drink.

5 years ago the OCWA described their water treatment as follows:

"The water then goes through a bed of activated carbon to remove all remaining chemicals"

This was disputed by myself and changed to "removes taste and odor causing chemicals" after numerous e-mails and phone calls. Of course they refused to change the words pure and purified until now :)
